SELF - CARE FOLLOWING:

EXTRACTIONS

Proper aftercare following a tooth extraction is essential for a smooth recovery and to prevent complications such as infection or dry socket. After the extraction, it's important to keep the area clean by gently rinsing with saltwater and avoiding vigorous rinsing or spitting.

  • Take care if anesthesia was administered that you do not nibble/bite or burn the lip whilst numb.

  • Please avoid smoking, drinking alcohol and rigorous rinsing of the mouth for 72 hours.

  • If bleeding persists, bite on a gauze or handkerchief for 20 minutes and repeat until the bleeding stops.

  • Some amount of bruising, swelling and mild discomfort is normal and should subside within 7 days.

  • If an antibiotic is prescribed, please follow the clinician and manufacturer’s instructions.

  • Sutures shall be removed after 7 to 10 days if required.

To help prevent future dental problems, good oral hygiene, limiting the intake of sugar and regular visits to the dentist/hygienist are essential.
